Gordon Ramsay at Claridge's to close June 2013

Gordon Ramsay Holdings (GRH) is to close Gordon Ramsay at Claridge's restaurant this summer after a 12 year residency at the London hotel.

The restaurant will close its doors on 30 June with no confirmed plans to relocate, although GRH said was currently looking at new sites in Mayfair.

A spokesperson for GRH said: "We have taken the decision to close Gordon Ramsay at Claridge's in June 2013 following a fantastic collaboration over the last 12 years.

"We'd like to thank all our guests for the amazing support they have given for over a decade but felt the time was right to move on to new opportunities and investments."

Contract renewal

The future of the restaurant at Claridge's was placed into doubt in 2011 when the hotel's owner the Maybourne Group announced it would only be renewing the contract by one year. It is believed that operating on a short term contract had been one of the reasons behind GRH's decision to terminate the relationship.

Claridge's general manager Thomas Kochs, who starred in the recent TV documentary Inside Claridge's, said the restaurant had been an important part of the hotel for over a decade.

"We thank Gordon and his team for the incredible dedication they have shown in making the restaurant such a success, it has undoubtedly made an important contribution to Claridge’s gastronomic history," he said.

The hotel said it would announce future plans for the space occupied by Gordon Ramsay at Claridge's 'in due course'.

Gordon Ramsay at Claridge's opened in 2001 with Mark Sargeant as head chef. The chef stayed for eight years before handing over the reins to Steve Allen.

GRH said it would now focus on opening its next London restaurant - Union Street Cafe - in September, which is being financially backed by David Beckham and plans to serve a daily-changing Mediterranean-influenced menu.
