The former Michelin-starred restaurant joins the groups already established sites in London - Tamarind of Mayfair and Imli in Soho. Tamarind’s chief executive Rajesh Suri believes this latest addition to the portfolio marks a big step forward in the group’s expansion strategy.
“We see the huge potential in Zaika of Kensington and we are delighted to now count it as one of our own,” said Suri. “We believe in blending the finest traditional and innovative cuisine across a range of atmospheres in the very best setting for our customers.
“With Zaika of Kensington now in our stable, our group takes another step forward, delivering on our business strategy for both UK domestic and international expansion. We are setting our sights on bringing Zaika of Kensington the success it deserves.”
Culinary adaptations
Zaika, meaning ‘sophisticated flavours’ offers creative, contemporary Indian cuisine, merging traditional classic dishes with original menus.
Alfred Prasad, director of cuisine and executive chef of the Tamarind Collection, added: “An opportunity to showcase different facets of our vast Indian repertoire is always exciting and inspiring. At Zaika of Kensington, we will present adaptations of Indian food that will be quite new to our European diners, whilst retaining its traditional heritage and flavours.”
A ‘leading designer’ (to be announced at a later date) will be brought in later this year to redesign the interior of the Grade 2-listed Victorian building.
In 2011, the Tamarind Collection opened a branch in Newport Beach, California - Tamarind of London. The group was chosen to provide hospitality and catering at Lord's Cricket Ground in the same year.
