Cupari Wines targets on-trade with UK launch of 19 Argentinian wines

Cupari Wines, a new importer specialising in boutique wines from family-run wineries in Argentina, has launched in the UK and is targeting the on-trade market with its selection of 19 wines from five wineries, none of which were previously available in the UK.

Product details:

The company, which was founded in 2008 when Nick Smith bought a plot of land in the Vista Flores region of the Uco Valley, Mendoza to plant a vineyard, represents five independent estates with small production volumes of between 70,000 and 100,000 litres.

The wines in the portfolio include Torrontes, Bonarda, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec varieties as well as blends.

Restaurants in particular are being targeted by Cupari Wines with the importer suggesting the premium offering, which it says matches well with food, would be suited to eateries similar to the Buen Ayre Argentine Grill - the first to list some of the wines.

The five estates with wines included in the importer's portfolio range from family-run wineries with 19th Century roots and ancestry to Smith's own Cupari estate which produced its first Malbec vintage only last year.

USP:

Cupari Wines is bringing wine from five premium Argentinian estates to the UK. As quantities produced are relatively small, distribution for these wines is focused almost exclusively on the restaurant sector. These wines have never been exported to the UK before now.

Availability:

Restaurants looking to stock the wines are advised to contact the company directly.

Price:

The case rate for wines starts from £6.97 per bottle, rising to £19.97 per bottle for the Grand Reserva wines - prices are excluding VAT.

Why should you buy it?

Founder Nick Smith said: "We are not interested in supplying big volume brands to supermarkets; our focus is on exclusive parcels to independent merchants and restaurants who want to sell individual wines with provenance and a story to tell.

"The combination of ideal growing conditions and both modern and traditional winemaking skills enable Argentina’s winemakers to produce wines of vibrant colours and aromas but with excellent freshness and acidity, making them ideal partners with food."
