Product details:
Goddess cheese is made with milk from Guernsey which is known for its richness. The rind is washed in cider brandy which is designed to give it a punch and contributes to its deep orange colour. A creamy and decadent cheese with citrus notes, Goddess can be eaten at five weeks old but will mellow with age and is at its prime at eight to 10 weeks when it reportedly develops a denser and more and buttery texture.
Goddess is one of five artisan cheeses that were unveiled at the Big Feastival at Blur guitarist Alex James' Oxfordshire farm in September and is one of three to be distributed by Cheese Cellar, sitting alongside two Alex James Presents goat cheeses Little Wallop and Farleigh Wallop.
USP:
There aren't many cheeses out there that have been sourced by a guitarist turned cheese-maker, but this is one. Together with Little Wallop and Farleigh Wallop it could make a themed cheeseboard and as the cheeses come in small sizes of 200g they can be used flexibly.
Cost:
£6.95 for 200g
Availability:
Alex James Presents Goddess, Little Wallop and Farleigh Wallop are available to the trade through Cheese Cellar www.cheesecellar.co.uk which also has bases in London, Manchester, Worcester and Exeter.
Why you should buy it:
So far there has been a positive response to all Alex James Presents cheeses says Jonnie Archer, commercial director at Cheese Cellar, who believes Goddess will follow suit. "Alex is really committed to helping us to develop and sell this range for him, so we saw it as an opportunity for Cheese Cellar and our customers. We are particularly excited about the new Goddess cheese and the response that we are receiving," he said.
