New boutique hotel group The House Collection set for UK debut

The House Collection, a new group of boutique hotels in the east of England, is set to open its first property next spring - the Poet’s House hotel in the centre of Ely, Cambridgeshire.

Opening in March 2013, the 21-bedroom boutique property will be the first for the Group, which has been set up by three former members of the senior management team at golfing hotel the Belfry in Warwickshire.

David Toulson-Burke, Ian Cross and Jonathan Baker aim to create a portfolio of unique ‘luxury house hotels’ with no more than 45 bedrooms. A second property is planned to open in Cambridge later next year.

“We are extremely excited about the launch of the first House Collection hotel,” said The House Collection’s managing director Toulson-Burke. “Designed with discerning guests in mind, our hotels will meet growing demand for high-quality hospitality in mid-Anglia and the Cambridge area.

“A great deal of care is being invested into every aspect of the design of Poet’s House. With an emphasis on style, comfort and attention to detail, we will offer our guests a very different experience to mainstream hotels.

Restaurant, function rooms, courtyard

“We are confident that the arrival of Poet’s House – along with the future House Collection hotels – will be very warmly welcomed by the local community and visitors to the region alike.”

Situated nearby to the cathedral in the heart of Ely, Poet’s House will be a restored three-storey property with the 21 individually styled bedrooms combining original features with modern fixtures.

The hotel will also incorporate an all-day, 60-cover restaurant, a function room for 100 guests and a courtyard garden.

With backing from Cambridgeshire-based investment company Eastern Counties Finance, it is believed that The House Collection is looking at a variety of other locations across the region and, ultimately, nationwide.
