The National Restaurant Awards 2012: Top 25 sustainable restaurants revealed

Robin Hutson's country hotel and restaurant The Pig - In the Forest has won the inaugural Sustainable Restaurant of the Year award at this year's National Restaurant Awards with 25 eateries in the top 100 commended for their sustainable credentials.

For the first time this year The National Restaurant Awards partnered with the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA) to rate the top 100 UK restaurants on their commitment to sourcing, the environment and society.

All 100 restaurants were asked to complete the SRA sustainability rating and the New Forest-based restaurant came out on top beating Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons and The Three Chimneys to the title.

"We are all absolutely thrilled to be given this award," Hutson said. "We are particularly delighted that the judges recognised the genuine and responsible commitment we have to our food sourcing, the entire team are on board with this commitment and this award is very much for them."
