Product details:
La Hechicera is a premium blended rum from Colombia. Using pure rums from sugar cane grown in the South Caribbean that have been aged between 12 and 21 years in American white oak casks, the spirit, which is made using the solera method, is described as having a 'heady scent of toffee and orange peel on the nose, followed by a bold burst of flavour on the palate with distinctive notes of tobacco and roasted coffee.' It is designed to be drunk neat or over ice and is being sold in the UK for the first time this month.
USP:
La Hechicera, founded by the Riascos family, is the only family owned, privately held liquor company in Colombia and Colombian rums are rarely seen in the UK.

Why you should buy it:
The rum's premium positioning would make it ideal for a specialist bar or one with a focus on specialist spirits. It is suggested that its drier flavour profile will appeal to whisky drinkers as well as rum connoisseurs. Its producers also underline its specialist production. Laura Riascos de Castro said: "Ours is ‘unpolished’ rum which means it retains the genuine qualities of the noble wood it breathes, it has not been rounded up with additives or sugar, its smoothness has been mellowing for decades."
