Bar Sport seeks franchisees to grow brand following Britain's year of sport
Murray, a former amateur boxing champion who opened the first Bar Sport in Cannock in 1998, aims to see a Bar Sport in every major town and city in the UK.
This year the company has seen franchised sites open under the brand in Loughborough, Ipswich, Maidenhead and Croydon, joining Bar Sport Merry Hill in Dudley.
Following a successful year of sport for Great Britain and with interest in the area continuing to grow, Murray said he believed it was an ideal time to ramp up expansion and find more entrepreneurs to take on their own sites.
"I have always believed in the Bar Sport concept," he said. "I share a strong passion for sport with millions of people across the UK - sport doesn’t go out of fashion, it doesn’t lose its appeal from one generation to the next, it unites a community, and a nation as the Olympics has proven.
"This hopefully means Bar Sport, and its mission to create enjoyable spectator sport environments and experiences for our customers will continue to be a sustainable business”.
Franchise growth
Since launching the franchise business, a further four franchisees have come on board in Leicester, Worcester and London with Chris Whirledge of Pub Innsite currently seeking sites in those areas.
Whirledge said: “Bar Sport is such a breath of fresh air for this industry – and it clearly shows that if you create a brand that people can immediately relate to and then support it with simple yet reliable and consistent offers you will have a successful business that people want to be part of.
"We’ve completed four acquisitions in 12 months and we hope to complete on a further two by the end of the year. We will certainly be looking to build on this momentum next year”
The American style sports bar is kitted out with sports memorabilia and TV screens. It serves food and drink throughout the day. Sites are found once franchisees sign up.
