Diners at Yorkshire hotel's restaurant become ‘guinea pigs’ for new menu
Taking place on the second Thursday of every month, Guinea Pig Night allows Café Bar Concerto’s head chef Paul Thompson to construct a new menu each season, based on the diners’ preferences.
“Creating a great menu and serving food of the highest quality are obviously what any hotel strives for,” said the Earl of Doncaster Hotel’s general manager Fraser Wolstencroft. But at The Earl, we really just want to develop a dining experience with a really personal aspect to it.
“So allowing diners to taste new dishes and make the final decision as to what goes on the new menu, we think, is the perfect way of achieving it. After all, it’s the public who choose to dine with us, so it’s only right that they participate in picking the menu we provide.”
Priced at £15 per person, Guinea Pig Night includes a three-course meal created by Thompson and a glass of house wine. Diners will then rate each dish and any or all of them could then feature among the new menu, based on their popularity.
The extra mile
“After the recent refurbishment to restore the hotel to all the splendour of its original Art Deco roots, Café Bar Concerto is, without a doubt, a simply a stunning destination for any diner,” added Fraser.
“We really wanted to go that extra mile though and what better way to do it than creating not only a beautiful ambience, but also by serving a menu that they’ve helped to make themselves.”
The Earl of Doncaster Hotel is located between Doncaster Racecourse and Bloodstock Sales in Doncaster. It features 89 en-suite bedrooms, the Café Bar Concerto restaurant and cocktail bar, and free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel.
