Hilton Worldwide has announced it is to open its first DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Liverpool after signing a franchise agreement with Municipal Annex Limited to open a hotel in the Grade II-listed former Municipal Annexe council buildings in the city centre.

The 87-bedroom venue on the corner of Sir Thomas Street and Dale Street will be managed by Sanguine Hospitality and will feature a restaurant, executive lounge, spa and swimming pool and conference and events facilities.

Liverpool

The upscale hotel will be the fourth under a Hilton brand in the city joining the Hilton Liverpool and Hampton by Hilton venues in Liverpool City Centre and Liverpool John Lennon Airport. Sanguine Hospitality also manages the Hotel Indigo in the Merseyside city.

"DoubleTree by Hilton is looking forward to welcoming this neighbourhood gem to our growing portfolio in the U.K, which currently features 17 open hotels," Rob Palleschi, global head, DoubleTree by Hilton, said.

"Liverpool is world-renowned for its culture, art and music – we look forward to welcoming travellers to Liverpool next year with our delicious, signature chocolate chip cookie at check-in."

World-class

Plans to turn the grand former council buildings constructed in 1865 into a hotel have been in the works for several years as Dr. Marwan Koukash, who masterminded the plans explained.

"Delivering an architecturally significant building of the standard of DoubleTree by Hilton for Liverpool has been many years in the making.  It has been crucial to find the right partners to deliver my vision for a world-class destination hotel and venue for the city."

"I am delighted we have agreed management terms with Sanguine Hospitality, who have a reputation for delivering excellence in hotels, as well as a world class hotel brand – DoubleTree by Hilton," he added.

Sanguine Hospitality currently manages DoubleTree by Hilton venues in nearby Chester and also in Bristol.

One of the fastest-growing brands for the USA-based global hotel operator Hilton Worldwide, DoubleTree by Hilton hotels are famous for the chocolate chip cookie guests receive on arrival.

There are currently more than 300 hotels under the brand worldwide, more than 30 in Europe and 17 in the UK including recent openings in Newcastle, Sheffield and a number in London.
