MeatLiquor owners look to expand in London and to Brighton: Overseas investors show interest
The company, which is led by Yianni Papoutsis and Scott Collins and includes ex-Clapham House chairman David Page as an investor, is expected to take over the Real Greek site in Hoxton for one of the London restaurants with the Brighton outlet - its first permanent unit outside of the capital - to be in the North Laine area.
While the concept looks to expand, it has also drawn interest from a number of overseas investors, who are thought to be keen to take it overseas, M&C Report has learnt. One interested party is understood to have offered £12m for the fledgling operation.
However, it is understood that the company has so far turned down the approaches to concentrate on opening further sites.
Street food to restaurants
Burger and bar operation MeatLiquor opened in a site off of Oxford Circus last November, while sister site MeatMarket launched in Covent Garden’s Jubilee Hall in April complete with a takeaway option.
The street food concept started life as Meatwagon in 2009 when Papoutsis bought an old van and toured London's car parks to serve burgers to customers who'd heard about his idea on Twitter.
He joined forces with Collins, a publican to create Meateasy in a derelict restaurant above an abandoned pub in New Cross, south east London in January 2011 which stayed open for four months before the pair opened their first permanent site near Oxford Circus in November 2011.
