Crab Quay House restaurant, bar & deli to open in £22m Brixham Fish Market development

Crab Quay House, a new restaurant, bar and deli concept, is set to launch in the heart of Brixham Fish Market next month, serving local produce cooked in a modern British and European style.

The 90-cover venue (with an additional 50 covers in the waterfront terrace) is spread over two floors, with panoramic views of the town and Torbay coastline. It represents a £500,000 investment by local firm Ormand Hospitality Group (OHG).

“I just can’t wait to get the site up and running,” said Crab Quay House’s newly appointed restaurant manager Suzanne Ley. “I’m also really eager to get stuck into the deli and fishmonger element of the business; being actually inside and adjacent to the fish market we’ll have unique access to what is surely some of the best seafood produce in Europe if not the world.

“Everything we do is about locality, many of our ingredients are sourced from the fish market, literally feet away from the deli and restaurant. We’d like to continue that ethos though to our staffing and ensure as many staff are from the town as possible, it’ll complete the picture if our staff are serving fresh local produce that generations of their families have helped to land.”

The menus at Crab Quay House will feature freshly cooked local produce cooked in a modern British and European style. The deli and shop on the ground floor will include a coffee counter serving locally roasted coffee, Brixham fishmonger, cheese counter, speciality olive selection, dried meats, baked goods and various other local produce.

Flying start

Ed Steven, managing director of OHG, added: “It’s great to be approaching the end of the build stage and near the operational stage of Crab Quay House. The head chef and senior kitchen brigade appointments are next on our list and we’ve had some amazing candidates so far.

“We’ve clearly invested a significant amount of money in the project and we’re eager to get it open, with Suzanne on board early we’ll be able to make sure we get off to a flying start.”

The Brixham Fish Market development represents a £20-million-plus investment in the fishing fleet and there facilities. The restaurant bar and deli is the final element in the £22-million Brixham Fish Quay Market, opened by Princess Anne last year, and managed by the Torbay Development Agency.
