The hotel, which has been awarded two AA Red Stars and two AA Rosettes, comprises 12 en-suite bedrooms, a bar, brasserie and restaurant. Owners Chris and Alison Davy are selling the property as they look to retire.
“We have enjoyed 23 really happy years in Romaldkirk,” said the couple. “However, our children are now grown up and retirement beckons. The Rose & Crown is a very special business and we hope that we shall find new owners who will love the old inn as much as we do and take it forward even further in the future.”
David Lee, director of the Newcastle office at Christie & Co, which is marketing the hotel, added: “The Rose & Crown is one of the best coaching inns to come to the market in recent times — this award-winning businesses has only changed ownership twice in over 40 years.
Enviable reputation
“In addition to the superb hotel premises, a new owner would have the benefit of living in a self-contained cottage to the rear of the property. The Rose & Crown has enjoyed an enviable reputation and this is reflected in consistently high turnover and net profits.”
Built in 1733, the hotel is located in the historic village of Romaldkirk in Teesdale and is famous for its Saxon church and three village greens. To the rear of the main building there are four cottages, including one providing self- contained, three-bedroom owner’s accommodation.
