Micros Systems acquires hospitality technology provider Torex

Micros Systems has announced it is to acquire the UK-based hospitality technology provider Torex Retail Holdings to support its international expansion plans.

Torex, which currently operates in the UK, Europe and the USA, provides technology and consultancy for hospitality industry businesses.

At the end of last year Torex launched a cloud-based Point of Sale (POS) system for use by staff in restaurants, hotels and pubs.

Torex is also involved in solutions for loss prevention, e-commerce, loyalty programmes, social media interaction and vouchering. Recently the company worked with Pizza Express on the launch of its new voucher scheme and PayPal app.

Fundamental technology

Kaweh Niroomand, president Micros-Fidelio for Europe, Africa, and the Middle East at Micros Systems, said the deal, which is dependent on regulatory approval in a number of European markets, was good news for the industry and hospitality operators.

“More so than ever, technology innovation and efficiency are fundamental to business success and this acquisition will allow us to deliver a broader range of products and services to new and existing customers,” Niroomand said.

POS software

Micros Systems, based in the USA, specializes in POS software and currently provides applications and systems in table and quick service restaurants, hotels and a range of other leisure and retail businesses around the world.

Steve Rowley, chief executive of Torex, said: “This is a great deal for both companies, and reflects the transformation which has taken place at Torex as a result of our employees’ hard work and commitment over the last few years. Together, we are positioned to provide our customers with a large portfolio of innovative technology which supports our customers’ business needs.”
