Earth Hour, between 8:30pm and 9:30pm BST, began in 2007 and is organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to show how simple steps can make a significant impact on reducing greenhouse gases. More than 5,200 cities and towns in 135 countries were involved last year.
Galvin at Windows at the London Hilton on Park Lane will be serving organic wines and ingredients and Trade Vic's restaurant at the same venue will use wood-fire ovens and limit the use of gas. The event, known for people switching off their lights, will be marked at the Hilton London Canary Wharf by using minimal lighting and switching off external lights. Candlelit events are also happening at some of Hilton's venues in the capital.
Hilton Worldwide has a made a five year commitment to reduce energy consumption, CO2 emissions and waste output by 20 per cent and water consumption by 10 per cent by 2014.
