The Cannonball Run will see four BMWs carrying the 20 participants leave John O’Groats for Lands End at midnight on April 1 2012 with the hope that the event will raise thousands for industry charity Hospitality Action.
Chefs confirmed so far are Jason Atherton, Bruno Loubet, Adam Simmonds, Mark Askew and Steve Smith with the competing team to include ex-AA inspector Peter Birnie and food blogger Douglas Blythe.
Organiser Gordon Cartwright of consultancy Visionary Dining, said he came up with the idea to give chefs a chance to get out of their own kitchens and see what others were doing while raising cash for charity and having some fun.
“Many of the restaurants the chefs will visit will just be names to them, because, if they’re London based and working they don't get a chance to visit them, so this will give them that chance to eat there and network. It's also a fun way to raise money for a great charity."
BigHospitality is the official media partner for the event and will be joining the action, travelling day and night with the chefs and critics as they make their way down the country, sampling a tasting dish at each restaurant before dashing back to cars and driving to the next venue.
There are still places left in the critics cars. If you are a restaurant critic or food blogger interested in taking part and competing against the chefs, email Gordon Cartwright at gordon@visionarydining.com.
