The 60-cover, 2,700sq.ft site is situated in Colmore Row and showcases Indian cuisine headed up by chef-patron Sudha Saha. Saffron Birmingham offers lunch, pre-theatre, a la carte and five-course taster menus to be updated quarterly with seasonal ingredients.

“My aim is to create a journey of taste and texture, by fusing seasonal produce with global influences to give diners the most sensational food they have ever tasted,” said Saha, who reached the semi-finals of the 2011 National Chef of the Year competition and was also nominated for the Ethnic Chef Award by the Craft Guild of Chefs earlier this year.
Saffron managing director Aklasul Momin added: “We already have two successful neighbourhood restaurants in Worcester and Odlbury and felt that the time is right to expand to the heart of Birmingham with our style of Indian fine dining.
“We’ll be in great company with Asha’s and Lasan close by, especially as there is a growing appetite for exceptionally high quality Indian cuisine by local businesses and visitors to the city.”

With average prices at £35-40 a head, Saffron Birmingham’s menu features ‘innovative twists to Indian cuisine’ with dishes including Nalli Gosht (Welsh lamb shank), Highland Venison Steak in Junglee Venison, Paner Pasanda served with Lime and Mint Cous Cous, and Chicken Breast flavoured with Makhni, Red Amaranth and Mooli Relish.
Set in a period building, the Saffron Birmingham Indian restaurant provides armchairs and spacious booths and the restaurants interior features gold tones and soft golden lighting.
Last year Saffron was awarded Midlands’ regional winner of The Good Food Guide Readers’ Restaurant of the Year Award and in August this year they were awarded their first AA rosette. Chef Saha believes that this is the first step to achieving a coveted Michelin star.
