Karpo restaurant brings ‘urban dining’ to Kings Cross

Karpo, a new all-day eating and drinking restaurant opposite London’s Kings Cross station, is set to open next month, offering customers an ‘urban dining experience’.

Split over three levels and catering for up to 140 covers, Karpo will offer a diverse menu and modern interior featuring bespoke lighting and graffiti art. With the next 12 months packed full of iconic events including the London 2012 Olympics and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the restaurant will likely benefit from increased footfall in its central location.

The name Karpo refers to the Greek goddess of fruits of the earth, and the menus at Karpo will reflect this reference with ingredients from specialist local suppliers, incorporating sustainable and organic produce wherever possible and appropriate.

American-born head chef Daniel Taylor will include several dishes from his home nation including shrimp and grits, Reuben on rye, bagels with lox and cream cheese, and southern-fried quail with celeriac coleslaw. Taylor previously worked at Fenwick’s Bond & Brook in Mayfair.

The breakfast menu will include homemade pastries, pancakes, and salt beef hash with fried eggs. The lunch and dinner offering will range from tagliatelle with crab, chilli and mint to braised pork with collard greens, or venison shin with porcini and polenta.

Living wall

The wine list will offer approximately 100 with both traditional and natural wines, most of which will also be available by the glass or small pot.

In addition to the concrete, natural wood, metalwork and leather interior, there will be a ‘living wall’ at the back of the restaurant which will be covered with a variety of organic herbs, flowers and medicinal plants.

Taylor has also created his own urban garden atop an adjacent building and is currently growing potatoes, kale, artichokes, salad leaves and fruit trees for use in the restaurant.

Karpo restaurant will be open daily from 7am until 11pm. The full address is 23 Euston Road, London NW1 2SD.
