London’s top Indian chefs unite for Diwali

Six of London’s top Indian chefs are uniting to prepare an exclusive banquet to celebrate the Hindu festival of light in aid of Action Against Hunger on Sunday 30 October.

Vivek Singh and Rakesh Ravindran of The Cinnamon Club will welcome Sriram Aylur of Michelin-starred Quilon, Navin Bhatia of Dockmaster’s House, Anirudh Arora of Moti Mahal and Dhruv Baker, Masterchef 2010 winner, to join them in their kitchens to produce a spectacular five-course feast and canapés for the special event.

Singh, executive chef at The Cinnamon Club, said: “Action Against Hunger does a wonderful job of keeping us connected to the realities of the world and reminds us that the small steps we take can mean big things to the world’s most impoverished people.

“I come from India, so I have witnessed hunger first-hand, and I would like to use my 18 years as a chef to help.”

The evening will be hosted by BBC Radio 2’s food and drink presenter Nigel Barden, and will feature Indian entertainment, fine wines from Sula Vineyards (at the forefront of the Indian Wine revolution) and a short auction of exclusive money-can’t-buy prizes.

Life-saving initiative

Last year’s event raised more than £22,000 towards Action Against Hunger’s work in more than 45 countries around the world.

“The Diwali Banquet is always a great evening,” said Caroline Crowther, Action Against Hunger’s head of events. “And this year’s event looks set to be better than ever with six of London’s best Indian chefs cooking up a storm.
