Top female chefs unite for Action Against Hunger

Four of the UK’s most renowned female chefs are joining forces for Action Against Hunger’s Fine Wine Auction and Dinner taking place next month.

Angela Hartnett MBE (Murano restaurant), Anna Hansen (The Modern Pantry), Claire Clark MBE and Clare Smyth (Restaurant Gordon Ramsay) will be cooking a gourmet meal for 200 guests under the direction of Herbert Berger, executive chef of London’s exclusive 1 Lombard Street, in a bid to ‘turn wine into water’ for Action Against Hunger.

Hartnett, who received her first Michelin star in 2004, said: “I am thrilled to be supporting Action Against Hunger’s Fine Wine Auction for the third year in a row. It is always a fantastic event which raises thousands of pounds to help save the lives of malnourished children in the world’s poorest countries.”

Smyth, the first and only female chef in the UK to hold three Michelin stars, said: "The night promises to be a spectacular event, seeing food and wine lovers uniting together to show their support for the world’s poorest children.”

Delighted to be involved

Hansen, author of The Modern Pantry Cookbook, said: “With so many children suffering from hunger in East Africa right now, the Fine Wine Auction could not come at a more significant time. I am delighted to be involved.”

Clark, who is the first British female pastry chef to win a Master of Culinary Arts, said: “I am really looking forward to the big night and to working alongside a group of such talented chefs. I jumped at the chance to be involved as the link between enjoying fine food and raising funds for those around the world who have no food, is one far too great to ignore.”

Last year’s Fine Wine Auction was a great success, raising over £220,000. This year, the humanitarian organisation has also teamed up with Champagne Taittinger, Justerini & Brooks, Chateau Pichon-Longueville, Taylor's Port and Courvoisier to complement the four-course dinner with a worldwide range of wine, champagne, port and cognac.

The Fine Wine Auction & Dinner will take place on Saturday 8 October, with World Food Day following one week later on 16 October. For further information about Action Against Hunger and the auction, visit http://www.actionagainsthunger.org.uk/finewineauction.
