Michelin-starred sailing
Michelin-starred chef Richard Corrigan has partnered with Sail Greenwich to launch a summer-long boating event for 2012. The inaugural Sail Royal Greenwich will take place from 25 July to 12 August 2012, when 20 tall ships will sail a daily scenic route along the Thames taking in several Olympic venues, Tower Bridge, the Royal Naval College and the Royal Observatory. Corrigan has devised two buffet menus available on most of the ships, with a separate tasting menu option also available.
Darts legends tour
Pub group Orchid is attempting to reinvigorate the sport of pub darts by inviting five dart professionals to take part in a Legends in your Local National Darts Tour. The pros, including Aaron Monk and Tony O’Shea will visit eight Orchid pubs where they will be taking on each other and pub regulars in darts matches to demonstrate the excitement of the sport to a wider audience. The tour will kick off at the Buckinghamshire Yeoman in Aylesbury on 25 October, and end at the Priory in Liverpool on 10 November. Staff will promote the event by wearing branded t-shirts with additional posters, beer mats and bunting providing additional POS marketing.
Birthday celebrations
Young’s pub company is celebrating its 180th birthday this autumn with several special events including complimentary parties, drink offers, birthday cake and a cask ale festival being held across the stable. The celebrations will kick off on 21 September with The Big Birthday party, when Young’s birthday brew the 1831 Anniversary Ale will be launched. A cask ale festival will take place from 19 September until 2 October across the group with no two Young’s pubs stocking the same selection. On 4 October over 30 Young’s pubs across London and the South East will host London’s biggest pub quiz, tying in with the London Restaurant Festival and hosted by restaurant critic Fay Maschler.
Grill Club
The Brompton Bar & Grill in London has partnered with butchers Allens of Mayfair to launch its first Grill Club on 19 September, giving diners the chance to learn about different cuts of meat. Following a presentation from the renowned butchers, diners will be given a talk and Burgundy wine tasting by Rupert Bairamian of Hallgarten Druitt Wines before being shown how to prepare the perfect steak tartare by Brompton Bar & Grill chef owner Francois O’Neill. A two-course meal will then be served. The evening has been priced at £45 per head.
