Italian gastronomy event Identità is returning to the UK for the third time next month, the show’s organisers have said, in an effort to “explain the fundamentals of today’s Italian cuisine”.

The third Identità London will take place at the Town Hall Hotel in Shoreditch, east London on 18th October 2011, and will showcase the skills of six of ‘Italy’s greatest chefs’, including Massimo Bottura, of Osteria Francescana, Modena, Davide Scabin of Combal Zero, Rivoli and Paolo Lopriore of Il Canto, Siena.

The one-day event , which will culminate in an evening gala dinner created by the six chefs, will feature cookery shows by the starring chefs as well as showcasing a selection of Italian artisan producers.

‘Misrepresented’

Italian food editor Paulo Marchi, the event’s founder, said: “Throughout the world, there is a great love for Italian quality, for Italian produce and Italian cuisine. However, I do not know of another cuisine style that has been so misrepresented and I feel that the true energy of what is Italian gastronomy today is missing.”

He added: “It is no longer time to be satisfied with generic food, which is allegedly Italian but repeats stereotypes, which by now belong to other periods of time and certainly not to Italy today. Identita London therefore, shall endeavour to explain the fundamental principles of today’s Italian cuisine.”

The full line-up is as follows:

Massimo Bottura - Osteria Francescana, Modena

Davide Scabin - Combal Zero, Rivoli

Paolo Lopriore – Il Canto, Siena

Davide Oldani – D’O Restaurant, Lombardy

Antonino Cannavacciuolo – Villa Crespi, Piedmont

Ciccio Sultano – Duomo, Sicily
