Plans to build a luxury spa, a new function room and restaurant and refurbish 50 bedrooms, have been approved by the council allowing the operator to start work in October.
The project is expected to take between six and eight months and is part of major refurbishment plans for the group, which has just completed work on its St Ives hotel following the refurbishment of Christchurch Harbour Hotel.
Mark Godfrey, managing director of the Harbour Hotels Collection, said he was pleased that planning permission had been granted so the group could get started.
“We hope that the newly refurbished Hotel and additional facilities will not only boost the local economy by attracting new visitors to the area, but also act as a local community hub,” he added.
Torquay-based architect Kay Elliot has been appointed to lead the refurbishment project. DO Design will give the hotel a new contemporary look using silk and woven fabrics in soft marine colours together with oak flooring.
Hotel general manager Jason Parry said: “Through careful planning and development, we will deliver a hotel that not only attracts new visitors but also provides state-of-the-art spa facilities, a stunning venue for weddings and special events, fantastic dining experiences and a relaxing retreat for the local community.”
On-going growth
Godfrey said the regeneration of the Devon hotel, which will bring it up to four-star standard, was part of the group’s ‘big plans for on-going growth’.
“This is an exciting time for us, as we continue to build our collection of waterside Hotels, we are always on the lookout for unique and stunning waterside hotels to add to our Harbour Hotels Collection,” he said.
Harbor Hotels currently owns and operates two hotels in Christchurch as well as hotels in St Ives, Salcombe and Sidmouth.
