Amongst those who have signed up so far are Tom Aikens Restaurant, Tom’s Kitchen, The Punch Tavern and Hard Rock Café.
Together with other businesses in the tourism and leisure sectors, they are committing to maintaining their prices during the 2012 Games, and delivering their goods and services in an “ethical, environmental and sustainable” way.
The signatories will also then promote their Charter membership in order to reassure tourists that they are getting value for money.
No Olympics profiteering
The London Visitor Charter is said to be not only a first for London, but also for any Host City.
‘We feel it’s important that London’s restaurants, pubs, hotels and other consumer facing businesses in the capital show fair price and practice during the Games period," a London & Partners spokesperson told BigHospitality.
"We want visitors to feel they have got value for money during their time in the capital so they keep coming back to experience the wonderful and varied dining, accommodation and leisure activities that the capital has to offer. Now is the time for businesses to sign up and make the commitment to their customers.’
Tom Aikens, the Michelin-starred chef behind the fine dining Tom’s Aikens Restaurant and the casual dining Tom’s Kitchen said the Charter was a way to ensure that visitors are not victims of profiteering.
" I completely back the Charter and believe it is it only right that fair pricing is in place across the whole of London, ensuring that visitors and tourists are not being taken advantage of when visiting during the Olympics," he said.
Repeat businesses
The Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: “It is fantastic news that London's businesses are signing up to this charter and signalling their commitment to ensure that when we welcome the world to London next year we make that welcome so memorable, so incredible that visitors come back to our great city again and again.
“So I call on all businesses in the capital's huge leisure sector to get on board and be part of this drive to tell our guests that London offers great value for money."
More information on the London Visitor Charter and the partners signed up will be available on the London and Partners website, the Mayor’s promotional agency for London.
