Eatdrinksleep, the owner of dining pubs the Felin Fach Griffin in Brecon and The Gurnard’s Head near St Ives, has acquired The Old Coastguard in Cornwall for an undisclosed sum.

Bought from a private landlord in partnership with Tresco Estate, the owner of the Island Hotel and Hell Bay on the Scilly Isles, The Old Coastguard will undergo a light refurbishment to bring the property in line with Eatdrinksleep’s other venues.

The pub’s restaurant is currently closed for a three-week facelift, and is due to reopen in mid-July serving a bistro menu.

However the menu will change after the summer holidays to a more ‘serious’ food offer in line with the Gurnard’s Head and the Griffin.

The Old Coastguard’s 14 bedrooms will remain open throughout the light refurbishment.

Edmund Inkin, co-owner of Eatdrinksleep with brother Charles, said: “We are so excited to be taking on a building with such enormous potential. It will take a little time to work with the existing team to make The Coastguard as we would like it, but it is the kind of challenge we absolutely relish.

“This is an opportunity to make The Old Coastguard a destination in itself for proper British seaside holidays.”

Eatdrinksleep opened the Felin Fach Griffin in 1999, before the Gurnard’s Head launched in 2005. The group sees the acquisition of the Old Coastguard as ‘organic progression’.
