Briefing to explore career roadblocks for women in hospitality
Organised by HVS Executive Search and co-hosted by the Leading Ladies of London Association, the breakfast briefing will take place at Dukes Hotel, London on 21 June 2011.
Speakers at the event will include: Debrah Dhugga, General Manager, Dukes Hotel London and founder of Leading Ladies of London; Tracey Chappell, global director of Spa Development, ESPA International; Alison Frith, owner and managing director, Artizian Catering; and Jillian MacLean, managing director, Drake & Morgan and People 1st Outstanding Entrepreneur Award Winner.
Male-dominated industry
“The fact only a small number of women achieve top positions in the hospitality sector demonstrates that this is a real issue,” said session moderator Lorenza Alessie, a director at HVS Executive Search.
“Our panel of leading female executives will examine what is stopping more women achieving great things in the industry and why the industry is still primarily male-dominated – it will make for a fascinating and topical discussion.”
The Leading Ladies of London Association was founded earlier this year in an attempt to encourage more female leaders into the hotel industry.
The aim of the organisation, which is only open to women heading five-star hotels in the capital, is to bring together a group of female leaders who, via regular meetings and events, can discuss industry demands, business issues, ideas and best practice.
Women in hospitality
Research released last year by the hospitality skills council People 1st revealed that over 300,000 women leave the hospitality industry every year, which comes at a cost of £3bn to businesses.
In 2009, the group set up its Women 1st initiative with the aim of doubling the number of women in board level executive positions in the hospitality sector.
