The new hotels are under the group’s Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Hotel Indigo brands, added to IHG’s development pipeline between June 2010 and May 2011.
Overall, the new European hotels account for an additional 7,874 rooms, and are located throughout the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Russia, Turkey, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.
Last month, IHG said that revenue per available room (RevPAR) in the group’s European operations for its first quarter of this financial year, ended 31 march 2011, increased by only a modest 0.5 per cent, compared to much stronger operations in other global markets, particularly the US and China.
But Kirk Kinsell, IHG president for Europe, Middle East and Africa, said the group is committed to boosting its business in Europe.
“Signing a further 54 properties is testament to the strength of our brands and reflects our commitment to growth in Europe. These new additions mean IHG continues to hold the hospitality industry’s largest development pipeline with 1,236 hotels worldwide.”
