Michael Caines closes restaurant at ABode Glasgow
The ABode Hotel group decided to close the 60-cover restaurant last week following five years of trading, in order to pursue “greater efficiency of the business and operations”.
In a statement the group, headed by greetings card entrepreneur Andrew Brownsword, said: “ABode Hotels and Michael Caines Restaurants regret to announce that in the pursuit of greater business efficiency they have decided to close their Michael Caines Restaurant whilst they consider alternative options for best use of space.”
While the Michael Caines restaurant will cease to trade, Abode Glasgow’s casual dining offer the MC Bar and Grill will continue to operate as usual.
Caines, who also operates restaurants at the Bath Priory and Gidleigh Park, shared the news with Twitter followers “with a heavy heart”.
“I can confirm that our restaurant at ABode Glasgow has closed whilst we review our business in Glasgow,” he said. “So thank you 2 all our customers over the past 4 years in Glasgow, it's with a heavy heart I share this news, but I'm proud (of) our time there. (sic)”
Staff at the venue will be relocated back within the group, which has been unaffected by the closure.
“The decision to close the restaurant at ABode Glasgow is particular to that property and has no significance to the rest of the ABode Group of Hotels or its MC branded restaurants and bars,” the group added.
ABode Hotels will continue to press ahead with the opening of its sixth venue in Salisbury. It currently also operates hotels in Exeter, Canterbury, Chester, Manchester with the group’s first Baby ABode in Chelsea, London.
