M&B appoints Bob Ivell as non-exec director

Pub and restaurant operator Mitchells & Butlers (M&B) has appointed industry veteran Bob Ivell as non-executive director, effective immediately.

The appointment of Ivell, who has 30 years of experience in the industry, follows significant management shake-up at M&B recently, including the departures of chairman John Lovering and chief executive Adam Fowle.

In a short announcement released today, M&B said that Bob Ivell will immediately take on the role of non-executive director.

Industry experience

Ivell’s previous roles in the industry include chairman of Regent Inns, managing director of Scottish & Newcastle Retail, and managing director of Beefeater Restaurants, one of Whitbread’s pub restaurant brands.

He is currently Senior Independent Director of Britvic, Chairman of David Lloyd Leisure Limited and a Board advisor to the Delphi Partnership, a corporate finance advisory firm.

M&B said it was under no legal requirement to disclose further details about Ivell.

Management shake-up

In February this year, M&B lost John Lovering as chairman and non-executive director, when he stepped down after just a year in the role.

The M&B board appointed Simon Burke to take over as non-executive chairman, after serving in the role of non-executive deputy chairman since January 2010. At the time, the company said it planned to appoint additional non-executive directors to the board.

A month later, M&B announced that chief executive Adam Fowle was leaving the company “by mutual consent” after two years in the post.
