Giraffe and Apostrophe open in Gatwick

The restaurant chain Giraffe and the patisserie-café Apostrophe both opened new sites in Gatwick Airport this week as part of the airport’s strategy to attract travellers to a modernized food and drink offering.

Both brands have signed franchise agreements with The Restaurant Group to operate the Gatwick sites.

Chief commercial officer for Gatwick, Robin Longden, said the brands are “contemporary, customer-focused venues” and fit in with new Gatwick’s “vision for the airport as a more dynamic, hospitability destination point.”

“When passengers come to the UK’s second largest airport they expect high standards of customer service, modern facilities and contemporary retail and catering brands. We are working hard to meet those expectations,” he said.

“The airport eateries need to reflect the modern, customer-focused environment we are trying to create and deliver quality food and drink.

“With the opening of sought after brands like Giraffe and Apostrophe we are now giving passengers a much wider range of choice between ‘food on the go’ outlets, relaxed coffee houses and good quality sit down dining establishments.”

Both restaurants, which formally opened on Friday, are located on the mezzanine level overlooking the south terminal arrivals and will be adjacent to the new £45m19-lane security area when it opens this summer.

This is the second site at Gatwick for the London-based patisserie-café concept Apostrophe, its third total airport location, and the 16th site operated under the brand.

Giraffe, a family-friendly restaurant concept, currently operates 40 sites across the UK and has ambitious expansion plans ahead of the Olympic Games.
