Boutique hotel opens in Northern Ireland’s Portrush

A new 'boutique' style hotel will open its doors in Northern Ireland’s Portrush, following a £4m refurbishment completed this month.

The Atlantis Hotel, Bar and Grill is taking on the site previously occupied by the Golf Links Hotel, Portrush, County Down.

The operators of the 16-bedroom venue are positioning it as a “chic and contemporary hotel” that meets guest expectations of the international boutique concept while also maintaining a “taste of Ireland”.

“We wanted to create a property which was as attractive to families or couples as it was to golfers or food lovers looking for something unique and cost effective which raises the bar in terms of style, added extras and customer service,” said managing director Peter Wilson.

Views and features

Located near tourist attractions such as the World Heritage Site - Giant’s Causeway, Royal Portrush Golf Course and Bushmills Distillery, the hotel has three bars: the JK Bar, Krugers and the Atlantis Bar and Grill.

Krugers, an exterior bar, features an anti-gravity “interactive” waterfall as well as a 30ft HD glass projection wall for “images and major terrestrial events”.

The glass-enclosed JK Bar, fitted with leather chairs and cushions, has views across the Atlantic Ocean.

“Every single decision made, from the choice of quality glassware to the position of the bars to ensure the magnificent views can be appreciated, was done so with our guest’s enjoyment in mind,” said Wilson.

The Atlantis Hotel, Bar and Grill plans to add a further 8 glass-fronted suites in late 2011, growing its number of bedrooms to 24.

Local sourcing

The hotel will employ 30 staff, which Wilson says will make it one of the “biggest employers in Portrush”, and it plans to support local commerce and produce.

“We will continue to source all we need from local traders, where possible, everything from fresh produce and linen to labour.”

“We are not only investing in the tourism industry but also in the people and traders of Portrush whose hard work and commitment will form the cornerstone of our hotel’s success.”
