Boisdale Canary Wharf site set to open in April
Due to open on 18 April 2011, Boisdale of Canary Wharf will be the group’s largest site to date, covering 12,000sq ft.
Spanning two floors, the site will include a restaurant and jazz club, with 220 covers, a whisky bar for 40 seated guests and 85 standing, a caviar and oyster bar for 60 seated guests and 75 standing, a cigar terrace with 64 seats, a members only cigar terrace for a further 22 members, and a Cuban cigar shop and cigar sampling room, with space for 16 seated guests.
“Our aim is for Boisdale of Canary Wharf to be a one stop shop for all people who enjoy the Boisdale ambiance,” said Boisdale managing director Ranald Macdonald.
Restaurant
The restaurant will be headed up by former Conran chef Andy Rose, with ingredients mainly sourced from Scotland and throughout the British Isles. The menu will be focussed on Aberdeenshire beef, Highland lamb, Hebridean shellfish and salmon, and seasonal Scottish game.
The new site will serve similar dishes to those at the existing Boisdale restaurants in Belgravia and Bishopsgate, including the group’s flagship hamburgers starting at £8.00 and main courses from £12.50.
In addition, a traditional silver carving trolley will be serving a daily changing roast at the table and seasonal specials will feature on the weekly changing menus.
French house wines will be available from £15.00, while a more exclusive Petrus ’95 will be available “for under £2,000 a bottle”.
Music, whisky and cigars
A stage in the restaurant area will offer a range of live jazz, blues and soul music, led by the Boisdale Patron of Music and piano maestro Jools Holland.
A bar located in the restaurant on the second floor will feature a 12m long wall of over 1,000 bottles of malt whisky.
In addition,a 16sq m walk-in cigar library with leather armchairs will contain a selection of Cuban cigars supplied by Hunters & Frankau and Mitch Orchant of C.Gars. Guests will then be able to smoke the cigars in an awning-covered heated cigar terrace, which wraps around the front of the venue.
Other features of the new site include an art-deco-inspired Caviar & Oyster Bar that will serve a range of caviar and oysters, Hebridean shellfish and Scottish smoked salmon.
Design and management
In line with the style of the other Boisdale venues, the new site will have lacquer red and dark green walls, rich mahogany panelling, with an eclectic collection of classical and modern original artwork.
Boisdale of Canary Wharf was designed in consultation with Rupert Charles-Jones who recently worked on Ashcombe Park, a country house owned by Guy Ritchie.
The project has been managed by John O’Neil & Partners, who were also responsible for Corrigan’s Mayfair and Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester.
Geoff Todd will be general manager, following on from his previous position of general manager at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club.
