Three Michelin-starred chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten will be bringing his East Asian-inspired restaurant concept to the UK, where he plans to open Spice Market London in the new W Hotel early next year.

The new restaurant, due to launch in February 2011, will be a sister restaurant to Spice Market in New York, but will serve a larger range of Asian foods than the New York site, including sushi.

Vongerichten will be re-grouping the team he worked with at the Vong Restaurant in The Berkley Hotel, which closed in 2003, including chef de cuisine Tim Tolley and general manager Bertrand Pierson.

Menu

Spice Market London, which will be Vongerichten’s 29th restaurant, will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food will be inspired by the street life of South East Asia, with the menu featuring “exotic” curries and spices.

Examples of dishes include: Spiced Chicken Samosa with Coriander Yogurt, Cod with Malaysian Chilli Sauce and Thai Basil and Ovaltine Kulfi, Caramelised Banana and Spiced Milk Chocolate

Cocktails will also be served, including Ginger Margarita, Lychee Raspberry Bellini and a Pineapple Mojito.

Design

The new restaurant is being designed by Concrete, which also worked on the design of the W Hotel last year. Spice Market will combine the contemporary architecture of the W Hotel together with the “authentic old world feel” of Spice Market New York.

The 200-cover venue will be set over two floors, decorated in shades of gold, copper, chrome and wood. The ceiling will be covered in wok lamps and the 24 metre-long rear wall will be made up of rows of spices.

As well as booth seating on both floors, the site will also contain a private dining room, a cocktail lounge and a sushi bar.
