The Yorkshire town of Malton is looking for a "top class" chef or patron to open a new restaurant in the town, and it's offering £10,000 to the right person to do so.
The market town has launched The Malton Food Lovers Restaurant Challenge in this month's issue of Restaurant magazine, is calling for ambitious chefs to enter the competition to be in with a chance of winning the £10,000 cash prize fund, .
Malton, which hosts an annual food festival in May, is so keen to attract culinary talent, that it is also offering a choice of "appealing properties" in which to launch the new restaurant and the opportunity to be part of the town's Big Food agenda.
With a mix of eclectic, independent shops,a traditional Saturday market, monthly farmer’s market, pubs, tea rooms, bistros and wine bars, the historic market town is described as the "perfect location" for a new restaurant.
How to enter
· A full CV detailing all professional background, experience and qualifications
· Two current references
· A personal statement detailing why you want to establish a restaurant in Malton and what special qualities you will bring to the enterprise
· An investment plan for the £10,000 prize fund
· A special lunch and dinner menu for the Food Lovers Festival weekend in May
· Your new restaurant’s name
· Full contact details, age and a current photograph
The judges are looking, in particular, for dishes that celebrate and reflect Malton’slocal producers and Yorkshire’s rich food heritage.
Closing date is November 30th 2010. Up to 5 finalists will be chosen, brought to Malton to cook for experienced,food-focused judges during January
