Pan Asian chain Tampopo has opened its sixth outlet in the Oracle shopping centre in Reading, the company's first venture into South East England

The new restaurant is situated in a riverside location, and features Tampopo’s trademark Asian street food as well as a new introduction to the layout, an East Asian style Mini-Mart where customers can buy Asian produce to take home.

Tampopo said it was confident that the Reading site would match the success of its other shopping centre outlets in Manchester and Bristol, where it was “consistently in the top handful of operators, with higher turnover per square foot than the likes of Pizza Express, Carluccio’s, Giraffe and Yo Sushi.”

The restaurant’s offer was designed for customers who want “interesting and healthy cuisine, but want it quick and don’t want to have to pay through the nose,” co-founder Nick Jeffery said.

He added: “We’re also looking to evolve our offering.  We have used recent trips to Japan, Malaysia and Indonesia to develop the concept.”

Plans

The chain has revealed plans to open more restaurants in the London and South East region, and take its portfolio total to 20 sites.

Co-founder David Fox said: “We’re actively seeking out a couple of new site opportunities between now and next summer, focussing our attention on central London and the South East. From there, we’ll be looking to take on board some new funding to help ramp up our openings to three or four new units per year, to take the group to around 20 sites in total.”
