Boringdon Hall Hotel, a Grade I-listed hotel in Devon has been put up for sale, following its owner’s decision to retire.
Agent Christie + Co is seeking offers in the region of £2.25 million for the freehold of the Elizabethan manor house, which is located near Plymouth.
Originating from circa 1857, the property is set within extensive gardens and grounds covering seven acres, and has an "established reputation" as a popular wedding venue.
The 41-bedroom hotel was extensively converted in the 1980s, and includes large public areas with four banqueting suites, a 60-cover Gallery Restaurant, a residents’ bar and a 350-capacity marquee.
Located on the outskirts of Plymouth and close to Dartmoor National Park, the property also benefits from a gazebo courtyard, which is being marketed as ideal for civil ceremonies, a health & beauty treatment suite and 200-space car park.
Since taking over the hotel in 2004, the current owner has worked to establish Boringdon Hall as a popular banqueting venue for weddings and corporate events, with the business averaging 80 per annum.
Now, however, the owner has decided to place the business on the market for “retirement reasons”, according to the agents.
Simon Stevens, director at Christie + Co, said: “We believe Boringdon Hall Hotel represents an excellent opportunity for a forward thinking individual or experienced operator who is willing to invest in the hotel’s future potential to increase revenue and convert the profitability in line with industry standards. This is a unique opportunity to acquire a historic and established hotel.”
