Marco Pierre White has teamed up with celebrity chef John Benson Smith and Manchester City FC to launch a new café at City Square this month.

The Blue Moon Café will serve a ‘real fast food’ menu celebrating the North West’s agriculture, by only serving dishes using ingredients sourced from Lancashire and the surrounding countryside.

Benson Smith, City’s consultant chef, said the café’s menu would appeal to the club’s fans, who want ‘no nonsense food that tastes great and doesn’t cost the earth’.

“At City we are hugely passionate about the food we serve,” he said. “The new match day menu will appeal to all age groups and tastes buds.”

Northern classics

The menu, a collaboration between City’s consultant chef Benson-Smith and White, will feature a fusion of traditional Northern classics, such as sausage rolls, pork pies, onion bhajis and pickled eggs.

White said the café would be ‘raising the bar’ for fan’s catering expectations and pre-match entertainment. “The food off the pitch should be as inspiring as the football on it. That doesn’t necessarily mean champagne and caviar. It can be as cheap as chips, so long as it’s done right using real, locally sourced ingredients that taste great.”

Blue Moon Café, which is in the final stages of completion, will launch in time for City’s first home game against Liverpool on 23 August.
