James Durrant, executive chef of Maze, has decided to leave Gordon Ramsay Holdings to ‘take some time out’.
Having joined GRH in 2001 at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, Durrant worked his way up the ranks to become senior sous chef at Gordon Ramsay at Claridges, before taking the position as executive chef of Maze in 2005. Whilst there he also helped launch the first international Maze at The London in New York.
Now, after five years in the position, Durrant will become the fourth senior chef at GRH to resign in just two years, following the likes of Marcus Wareing, Mark Sargeant and Jason Atherton.
Durrant said in a statement released today: “After an amazing nine years at GRH, I have decided to take some time out and I am really looking forward to the next step in my career.”
Durrant's replacement
A spokesperson for GRH added that Durrant’s replacement would be announced in due course.
“We’re very sad to be saying goodbye to James, he is a fantastic young talent and we wish him all the best for the future,” she said.
Atherton, who left GRH in April, will open his first solo UK venture, expected to be called Pollen Street Social, in October.
