Chris and Jeff Galvin’s Galvin La Chapelle at Spitalfields has been named Best Overall Restaurant at the Restaurant and Bar Design Awards 2010.
Having won the Tatler Restaurant award for Best Restaurant last month, as well as the Craft Guild of Chefs award for Best New Restaurant of the Year just last night, the Galvin brothers were said to be 'delighted' to pick up a third accolade for their Spitalfields restaurant, designed by DesignLSM.
Sara Galvin, Chris's wife and host patron at La Chapelle, said: "We considered ourselves to be up against some stiff competition and so didnt think we'd win it. The others had great designers with really good reputations.
"For the CGC award, as we were up against Mark Hix and Philip Howard we thought we wouldnt get it. Jeff in particular was really touched because he's put a lot of effort into the food at La Chapelle. When Chris was at The Orrery he won the same award, so now it's great that Jeff's talent is being recognised too."
Also receiving design accolades at the awards, which were announced at a ceremony held at Victoria House this week, were The Tote, designed by Serie Architects, for Best Bar, and Canteen, designed in-house, for Best Multiple Restaurant.
The Draft House, which last week revealed to BigHospitality plans to expand to ten sites, received the award for Best Identity and Website Design.
Now in its second year, the awards seek to exclusively and impartially recognise design in the restaurant and bar sector. Amongst the judges are Restaurant magazine editor Paul Wootton and The Guardian’s Life & Style editor Rachel Dixon.
Last year, The Olde Bell Inn in Hurley, Berkshire was voted the Best Designed Restaurant, with the Best Bar title going to Carbon in London’s West End.
