Cornwall’s Budock Vean Hotel has been named Considerate Hotel of the Year 2010, at a presentation that also saw legendary chef Raymond Blanc pick-up a ‘good egg’ award.
The four-star Budock Vean near Falmouth owned by Martin and Amanda Barlow took the Considerate Hoteliers top title thanks to its efforts to conserve water, reduce waste, make use of sustainable food sources and its Corporate Social Responsibility.
Awards judge professor John Forte said: “Not only does Budock Vean provide a shining example to other hotels of what sustainable and environmental management is all about.”
The first ever Considerate Good Egg of the Year Award was presented to chef and hotelier Raymond Blanc for “dedication and willingness to impart to others the absolute need to always try their best; that good enough is not enough; and to be ultra considerate at all times”.
Considerate award winners
The Considerate Green Marketing Initiative of the Year went to the Lancaster London, which last year saw the introduction of just over half a million honey bees on its roof.
Stephen Kyjak-Lane, general manager at the Lancaster London, said: “We are delighted to have been given this fantastic award. Our hotel is dedicated to its environmental policies and our philosophy to walk softly on the planet. For our team to be recognised for all their hard work is truly uplifting.”
Earlier this year The Lancaster London showed BigHospitality around the hotel to demonstrate just how they are working to be sustainable in an exclusive video.
The Considerate Sustainable Food Award went to Lasswade Country House and Restaurant at Llanwrtyd Wells, Powys in Wales. The Dorchester London carried off the Considerate Green Team of the Year accolade.
Jenny Lock, proprietor of the Greenbanks Hotel at Wendling, Norfolk, was recognised with a lifetime achievement award.
