Restaurant operator sought for London’s tallest building

Heron International, the property group behind the Heron Tower construction in Bishopsgate, London, is seeking an operator for the tower’s Restaurant and Sky Bar, which upon completion will be the highest in London.

The 13,423sqft restaurant together with external terraces, will be situated on the top three floors of the 46-storey, 230m high structure, which is due to be completed in March 2011. Diners, who can access the restaurant from two scenic lifts via a dedicated entrance, will be seated 175m above Bishopsgate with unparalleled views across the capital.

Lisa Ronson, director of Heron International who has appointed Shelley Sandzer to market the venue, said the group were looking for a hospitality operator to serve both tower tenants and members of the public for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

“We are looking for an operator that has a proven track record in delivering consistent quality at the very highest levels,” she said. “Heron Tower will be the number one business address in the City of London, the financial capital of the world.  As such it will need to cater for a wide range of tastes and be open 18 hours a day to meet the needs of those who are working in the financial capital of the world, straddled between US and Asia time zones.”

Tallest building?

Upon completion the Heron Tower will be the tallest building in the City of London. However, 2012 will see the completion of two taller buildings, The Pinnacle, or Bishopsgate Tower (63-storey, 288m), where Wolseley operators Chris Corbin and Jeremy King will operate a top-floor restaurant, and the Shard London Bridge (87-storey, 310m), where Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts are expected to take up a fifth of the available space.

When topped out, the Shard will become the tallest building in both the UK and the EU, surpassing the Commerzbank Tower in Frankfurt (259m) and One Canada Square in London (235m).
