Gordon Ramsay has named Lasan in Birmingham as Britain’s Best Local Restaurant in the F Word final, after beating The Pheasant from Keystone in a cook-off aired on Channel 4 last night.

Head chef and co-owner Aktar Islam and sous chef Aysan Shaikh beat 10,000 nominees and 18 finalists to the title for their contemporary take on traditional Indian cuisine.

Jabbar Khan, director of the Lasan Restaurant Group, which also includes a corporate catering, higher education catering and informal eatery arm, said: “As one of the world’s most respected chefs, it’s wonderful to be recognised by Gordon Ramsay for our innovative Indian cuisine. Aktar and the team have worked extremely hard to create a menu that reflects authentic Indian cooking.”

Lasan’s winning three-course menu featured Tandoori Masala Chicken with a Mint Chutney, Masala Beef with Curried Pumpkin, and a Puff Pastry Parcel stuffed with Carrot Pudding.

After winning the Best Indian Restaurant in the Midlands at the British Curry Awards for three years running, Islam said his new aim was now to make Lasan the first Michelin-starred Indian restaurant in Birmingham.
