Healthy fast-food restaurant Pod has opened its fourth site in London’s New Street Square, and has announced plans to launch a further ten sites in 2010.
After witnessing continued sales growth at the existing three Pod sites, and with £1m of new funding acquired over the summer, the 100-cover New Street Square site is the first in a line of new restaurants to open over the next few months.
Tim Hall, chief executive and founder of Pod, said the group’s success and subsequent decision to expand was down to the consumers’ demand for healthier alternatives to sandwiches.
“This has been an exciting year for Pod with continued sales growth through our three existing sites despite appalling trading conditions,” he said. “It has not been easy but customers seem to prefer our delicious, healthy food to the same old sandwiches you can buy everywhere. Funding gathered over the summer will enable us to more than double in size by March 2010 to become the leading healthy, fast food business in the UK.”
Three sites in Exchange Square, Cheapside and More London have been earmarked to launch in January, February and March 2010 respectively, with more to come over the next 12 months.
Pod also currently operates sites in London Wall, Lloyds Avenue and Devonshire Square.
