Khalil Abdesslem, television personality and founder of Moroccan food supplier Nomades Food, has opened a restaurant and bar in Wandsworth.
Doukan, situated next to the mainline station, serves ‘authentic’ Moroccan cuisine in an authentic yet contemporary 90-cover space that incorporates an engraved bar and deli counter serving a range of Moroccan and French pastries and desserts as well as lunchtime taskeaway options.
Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the restaurant has a clear distinction between day and evening dining, with the dining room separated from the bar and ‘day area’ by a Moroccan tiled wall.
Doukan’s evening menu includes dishes such as Terrine of Lamb’s Liver in a rich Coriander and Garlic Charmoula with Olive Oil and Preserved Lemon Tapenade; Slow-Cooked Chicken in Rass el Hanout, Fenugreek and Lentils served on a bed of Shredded Flatbread; and Puff Pastry filled with layers of Chocolate Mousse, Rose Water, Caramel and Roasted Pistachio.
Abdesslem, who first launched Nomades Food with a range of Moroccan condiments and sauces in 2001 said: “I wanted to create a restaurant that combined the cooking I grew up with, coming from a family obsessed by food and something similar to the restaurants dotted all over the cities of my homeland. A destination for authentic Moroccan cooking in London.”
