Momma Cherri's closes its doors

The Brighton restaurant made famous on Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares closes as funds dry up

Brighton restaurant Momma Cherri’s, made famous by appearing on Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, has closed.

The soul-food restaurant, owned by Charita Jones, sought the help of the celebrity chef back in 2004 and became one of the show’s biggest success stories. The show proved such a boon to business that the restaurant eventually moved to a larger site next door to cope with growing demand.

However, the restaurant was shown to be struggling when Ramsay returned for the filming of the fourth series of Kitchen Nighmares in 2006.

It was put into administration in December 2007, but continued trading until last month under a licence held by a company called American Soul Food set up by Mrs Jones’s daughter, Katryna Thomas-Shell.

A spokeswoman for administrators Baker Tilly said they hoped to find an owner for the restaurant, but so far had not received any offers.
