Ajith Jaya-Wickrema, co-founder and director of Latin American casual dining chain Las Iguanas, has left the company after 18 years of service to ‘pursue other opportunities’.

After launching the first Las Iguanas restaurant in Bristol in 1991 along with friend and business partner Eren Ali, Jaya-Wickrema has worked to establish 22 restaurants in 16 cities across England and Wales.

A statement released by the company today said that despite his departure, Jaya-Wickrema will still retain an investment in the business.

“He is confident that there is a strong management team in place who can continue to develop and grow Las Iguanas in the coming years,” it read.

Las Iguanas will continue to be headed up by Ali in his role as managing director.
