Bluebird celebrates Wimbledon and Aussie chefs say G'day UK

BigHospitality rounds up some of the promotions, offers and other special events being run by restaurants and hotels around the country.

Wimbledon in Chelsea

Chelsea restaurant and bar Bluebird will be transforming itself into Centre Court for the duration of the Wimbledon Championships. From Monday to July 5 Bluebird’s outdoor courtyard will give way to a large TV screen mini Astroturf tennis court and giant tennis balls. Head chef Matthew Burgess has created a special Wimbledon-inspired dishes including Eton Mess and Strawberry Sundae and specially –themed cocktails have been created in association with Lanson Champagne. The restaurant’s Food Store will also be giving a 10 per cent discount on all products, including hampers, for the duration of the tournament.

Golf in Wales

The Celtic Manor Resort in South Wales is introducing preferential rates for guests who want to walk in the footsteps of Wales Open stars. The hotel and golf-course, home to this year’s Wales Open and host of the Ryder Cup in 2010, is offering rooms and breakfast for £138 per night based on two people sharing. The deal also includes the chance to play on the Twenty Ten course before next year’s Ryder Cup and use of the hotel’s spa and fitness centre.

G’Day Uk

Australian-born chefs Shane Osborn (Pied a Terre) and Brett Graham (The Ledbury) will be saying G’day UK at the Gallery Restaurant at London department store Selfridges from Monday for a week-long campaign to bring Australian culture to London. The pair will work with Selfridges’ executive chef James Newton-Brown to create Australian dishes using ingredients such as yellowtail kingfish, Wagyu steak and lemon myrtle. The G’day UK Australian menu will be available from June 22 to July 3, priced at £20 two courses, or £23 for three.

County showcase

The National Dining Rooms at the National Gallery in London is showcasing produce from Cornwall throughout June for its County of the Month promotion. This series of monthly-changing menus will run until October with head chef Simon Duff sourcing locally grown ingredients from specialist producers in each county. This month’s menu includes Cornish Bryher Crab, Newlyn Lemon Soul and Boccadon Farm Calves Liver. The menu is priced at £22.50 for two courses and £27.50 for three.
