Get involved with National Vegetarian Week

Join BigHospitality next week for National Vegetarian Week’s celebration of a cuisine enjoyed by almost 10 per cent of the population

Hundreds of hospitality businesses are getting set to help promote inspirational vegetarian food next week as the Vegetarian Society’s 17th annual National Vegetarian Week (NVW) gets underway.

With almost 10 per cent of the population claiming to be vegetarian to some extent, restaurants, pubs and hotels across the country are offering extended vegetarian options for the week to promote the cuisine, which can often be overlooked on menus in favour of meat dishes.

The Saki Bar and Food Emporium in Smithfields will be offering a seven-course vegetarian tasting menu as the event coincides with the traditional Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival. Compass at IBM Southbank will be advertising the event and creating vegetarian dishes made with Quorn and tofu, while Mango Tree in Belgravia will be holding a vegetarian festival with many meat-free additions to its existing menu.

Celebrity vegetarian chef Maria Elia will be holding a live cookery demonstration at Waterstone’s in Piccadilly to tie in with the launch of her latest book, The Modern Vegetarian, while Green’s and Something For The Weekend chef Simon Rimmer will be taking part in the Newcastle Festival of Food and Wine by cooking a vegetarian dinner at Jesmond Dene House.
