Von Essen founder Andrew Davis was one of the few top earners in the hospitality industry to see his fortune grow last year.
Davis, who added Callow Hall in Derbyshire (pictured) to the von Essen portfolio last year and has stakes in the PremiAir group and London Heliport operating company, saw his wealth go up by £80m in the last year according to the 2009 Sunday Times Rich List, bringing his total fortune to £290m and placing him at joint 204th position.
Hotelier Jasminder Singh, owner of the Edwardian Group also saw his fortune grow by £3m to £330m and Tim and Kit Kemp, owners of London’s Soho Hotel saw their fortune grow by £18m pushing their total wealth up to £134m.
Poju Zabludowicz, who owns hotels and property, including the Tamares Hotel group, scored within the top 20 richest people in Britain. Despite his total wealth dropping £500m he came joint 18th and recorded a fortune of £1,500m.
Other members of the industry to appear in the 21st Sunday Times Rich List include restaurateur Richard Caring (146= £350m), hotelier Sir Rocco Forte (146= £350m) and Wetherspoon’s owner Tim Martin (406= £130m).
Chef Jamie Oliver ranks outside of the top 1,000 richest people in this year`s list with a fortune of £40m, the same as last year, but he is thought to be the highest ranking chef in this year`s list.
