Chavot and Singh cook for Mumbai victims

Eric Chavot and Vivek Singh are to cook for a charity fundraiser, of which all proceeds will go to helping the families of the victims of the Mumbai terrorist attacks

Eric Chavot and Vivek Singh of the Cinnamon Club will next month cook a charity banquet in aid of the victims of the Mumbai terrorist attacks.

The Oberoi Hotel that was overrun with terrorists in November last year has launched a Care Fund to provide financial assistance to the families of those who died. All proceeds from the private fundraiser evening held at The Capital Hotel in London will go directly into the Oberoi Care Fund.

Singh, executive chef of the Cinnamon Club and creator of arguably the hottest curry in the world, the Bombay Burner, will work alongside Chavot, head chef of two Michelin starred The Capital, for the evening to create a five-course banquet with fine wines.

Singh said he was very passionate about helping the Oberoi Care Fund. “I spent many years working with Oberoi Hotels and being involved with this charity is very important to me and incredibly close to my heart,” he said. “I look forward to cooking with Eric and making the evening a huge success.”

The November terrorist attacks on the Taj Mahal Palace and Oberoi Trident hotel took over 100 lives, including many hotel workers and one Briton. Fellow Indian chef Andy Varma, executive chef of Tiffinbites, Bombay Bicycle Club and Vama, was staying at the Oberoi Trident hotel in Mumbai when the attacks took place, although he returned to the UK safe and unharmed.
